In order to maximize my career opportunities, I have decided that my short-term goal is to receive my Master's degree in Business Administration while simultaneously finishing my Six Sigma process Improvement Black Belt certification. There are several obstacles I have to overcome such as graduating from University of Oklahoma with my bachelor's degree, being accepted to a master's program, and learning to cite references correctly which I learned I did not know how to do in this class. I have already started the ball rolling to overcome these obstacles by finishing my grad school applications, meeting with my new tutor who starts in May, and of course passing the one remaining class to graduate with my Bachelor's. Although I know that the coursework is difficult I am going to rely on what I have learned in my program such as researching, written communication, and interdisciplinary problem solving.
My long-term goal is to open my own consultation firm specializing in process improvement and industrial safety. Although having an MBA is not a requirement, I believe that the addition of accounting and business skills to the skills I learned in my undergraduate program will make me more successful in running the business side of my firm. The biggest obstacle is graduating with my MBA however I have determined that since I do not work and my tuition, books, and housing are paid for by my GI Bill the best course of action is to treat school as a full-time job and focus 100% of my attention.
